Back in Belfast for a few weeks over Christmas. Belfast is buzzing and lots going on in the studio including our annual members' exhibition. I'm proofing Giclee prints of new work to be shown in China next year - good job as usual by Iris Colour Belfast. Here is a preview of a detail of my work 'Little Acts of Cruelty' which is a response to poems by Wing Tek-Lum. More on the web site later!
I'm supporting the Arts Council of Northern Ireland campaign to lobby for no more cuts to the arts budget. There has been enough salami slicing over the past few years and most organisations are already operating at maximum efficiency. If the Minister for Arts and Culture expects the Arts to deliver so many instrumental benefits in terms of health, well-being and access, then the Arts need the budget to do so. We're not social workers, nor a sticky plaster for the ills of society but there's no doubt engaging with the arts has many positive benefits. Imagine what we could do with adequate funding! More than 13p per person per week!
